# 4 Elements of the Metaphysics >[!info]+ >The 4 models that make up the map of the human psyche referred to as the Metaphysics --- ## Stages ## Lines ## States ## Archetypes --- # Facets of One Thing What is important to remember about the 4 Elements is that they are simply 4 maps to look at the same terrain. Our experience itself is a unified whole, and it does not contain these divisions within it inherently. To use a crude metaphor, using the 4 Elements is like looking at 4 sets of information to help you plan a grand camping trip: - The Stages show you the different stages of the journey, what sort of things you will be focusing on in each segment, like having to cross a stream or climb a hill. - The States show you the altitude you will be at, how many other things you will be aware of on your journey, from tight caves where you can only see the hands in front of you, to expansive vistas where you can see across state lines. - The Intelligences show you the different skills you will need on your journey, from cooking to camping setup to ice climbing. Each one is a unique skill tree on its own that develops independently of the others. - The Archetypes show you the different roles different people in your party will need to play — or you will need to embody in a party of one — along the journey. When you come to an uncertain fork in the road, you will need the decisive power of The Ruler, when people get hurt, the healing aid of The Caregiver, and when the going gets tough, the light-hearted perspective of The Fool to keep spirits high. While these seem like separate things, especially when you get deep into the details of each, they are all just frameworks to look at the same journey.
