>[!info] >A hierarchy of Holons (whole/parts), where each subsequent level transcends and includes its predecessors. Things that develop this way, like Stages and States, are said to do so "Vertically".[^1] > >A classic example of holarchy is how cells transcend and include molecules, which transcend and include atoms, and so on. In the context of the Ancestor System, Stages and States behave in this way, with each one numbered higher including all the previous like a Russian nesting doll. So for example, the need for Status incudes, and is only possible when, the needs for Comfort and Survival are being met. Importantly, the Lines and Archetypes do not behave this way, being defined primarily by the fact that they do not include the others. For example, the Emotional Intelligence proper is defined by its attention to the data in awareness concerned with the relationships between feeling beings, and the ignorance of other data.[^2] [^1]: As opposed to non-holarchic development — like that of Lines and Types — which is referred to as "Horizontal." [^2]: Of course, in humans it is rare to only have one intelligence active at once, often the case being a collaboration between at least the top 3 dominant intelligences, sometimes even supported by analytical readouts of data from the developed inferior ones — that is, apprehended more as mental facts than the deep knowings dominant intelligences speak in. However, it is the Self that includes this multitude of perspectives and transcends them into a cohesive experience, not the intelligences themselves. When multiple branches of a military attack a target, the infantrymen don't start flying F-16s, there is still division of skill or "intelligence" even in coordinated action, showing their non-holarchic, horizontal nature.
