# The Cruise Ship & The Life Boat
The parable that explains our civilizational predicament.
The cruise ship is headed for a waterfall. A lot of people see it, but there doesn't seem to be an alternative vessel to take. Some say just jump in the water with us but its not convincing.
They'd rather stay in the comfort of the ship, with its casinos and bars and arcades and movie theaters, than jump in the freezing water. In other words, they'd rather be in [[The Waiting Room]]. The people in the water certainly don't look like they are having a good time despite their ideological conviction.
What is needed is an alternative ship. Some people from the cruise ship taking materials and fashioning it into a life raft, jumping off the side and starting to craft a vessel that can survive the waterfall thats coming. A lifeboat, or network of them, that can survive the waterfall.
