# i7 Coda, or, Wake Up, Little One!
While writing the i7 page, a quote I love came to mind. It says "It is impossible to be an atheist when living in a forest."
This nicely describes the natural decrease in i7 after the rise of Modernity and its resultant industrialization. Before civilization, humans were constantly aware of our seemingly eternal position of being at the mercy of forces outside of ourselves - the weather, the animal and plant population, mysterious sickness and disease, uniquely risky childbirth in the animal kingdom (big heads!), unintelligible foreign tribes or peoples with strange technology. This lessened somewhat during the epoch of Kingdoms and Empires, where the will of the ruler or ruling class sometimes had more power over affairs relevant to you than nature did - but much was still at the mercy of the Lord. After modernity, it seems it is the state, the market, and the inventor that now feed you, clothe you, entertain you, teach you and protect you.[^1] Everything has an answer, and it is a human made one. Praise the Lord went out in favor of Praise the Ford.
You get your meat from the butcher, your fruits from the market. There isn't a farm or a productive tree in sight. You can't actually explain what flowers are for besides being pretty. Everything is abstracted away. Some guy way smarter than you and everybody you know wearing a lab coat somewhere cracked the answer to the universe a long time ago, yes, for realsies, and it turns out all those Indian guys, the ones with the feathers who talk to trees AND the meditating ones that talk about that Seattle grunge band were all wrong. It wasn't even close. The white religious guys too, unfortunately for grandma. It was just a sham to wear funny hats and engage in sexual misconduct and do war and stuff. Turns out, life is meaningless and you're just frisky dust that gobbed together into this monkey guy by accident! The only creator worth your attention is Steve Jobs, or maybe Bezos, or maybe that YouTube guy who screams a lot and has infinite money. Have fun! Oh, and you can pick up your booze, opoids, SSRIs, or any numbing, crippling addiction of your choice over there! And yes, they are totally socially acceptable, no shame in it! Just pick your poison. Isn't postmodernity so dope? We have all this consumer choice! See you at therapy! Or maybe the morgue! We'll both be at one or the other by the next GPT release, which should be any minute now...
With such a convincing and satisfying worldview, who needs faith in powers beyond me and my second-to-none space-faring scientific species? Apparently me for one, which is why I'm writing this, and maybe you for two cause you're reading it. Unless I'm your kid or something. Hey Dad.
With the awakening of the collective to the Meta-Crisis however, the illusion[^2] of the supremacy of humanity's logical intellect and technological power as being the only force in the universe worthy being called divine is being seriously challenged. We are remembering that there are forces larger than us, rules of the games of Matter, Life, and Mind that even we, the outlaw species, must play by - or perish. New stories are emerging to grapple with this, transcending and including the old - in addition to many that are just plain old, come again. Hello Mr. Tate.
And now, something is coming through me.
**A Prayer:**
Creator, may your muses speak to our seers once more. May you forgive us our deafness all these years. May you speak to our young, and our old. May you speak to ours that are masculine, and ours that are feminine, and all of our darlings in between. May you speak to us of every color and class and creed. May you speak to us of every intelligence, and show your face in each one. May you sing to us as you once did, before we blinded ourselves with screens and skyscrapers. May you whisper to me like you did my ancestors, those who knew you from their time in Mother's womb. May you open my spirit to your Word, may you shower me in your wisdom. May you punish me as you did my precursors, and anoint me in oil too. May you speak to me through my big brothers and sisters, those called Yeshua, Siddhartha, Mohammad, and all the others. I come to you Lord, asking for your aid. What have I done without you? What can be accomplished without your hands holding mine? What strength, what grace is not yours? Lord, help me and my Family heal. Lord, help me and my People grow. Creator, help me and my Loved Ones[^3] come home to you. For the benefit of the All. Amen.
**A Reply:**
Silly child. When have I been apart from you?

[^1]: Or so it may seem to the nearsighted and socialized mind. Any mind with wings beyond its conditioning culture, or any body that has spent time in the wilderness quickly realizes the excruciatingly partial truth of this view. It may be the state and market that organize and refine the materials we subsist off of, but there is no moment in your life you have not breathed the oxygen made by trees, or day you haven't lived off the food grown by the sun, or drank water that was once ice in the comets that showered our planet after the its molten creation. Every atom of our bodies is an atom that has been on planet since its formation 4 billion years ago, bound to our Mother Earth through the force of gravity. We are indistinguishable from this place. There is no such thing as "nature." There is just us, and this, and the empty awareness that watches it all go by.
[^2]: Ask anyone who's had a proper near death experience, health miracle, or even just a nice old fashion 5 gram psilocybin trip if they're still on modernity & postmodernity's materialist reductionist hardline...
[^3]: Yes, that's you!
